Garfield Community Council

The Garfield community will install additional lighting, trim shrubbery
and trees, conduct community clean-ups and install a mural created
by youth at the Garfield Community Center.
Southshore Community Council
$16,000
The development of the Mapes Creek Walkway will link residential
and commercial areas, creating an area where all members of the
community can come together. The grant provided funding for lighting
and seating.
Mount Baker Community Club
$10,000
The development of Hillside Gardens will provide community gardening
opportunities to immigrants from Cambodia and Vietnam. The terracing
of the hillside will create 2,500 square feet of gardening space.
Rainier Vista Leadership
Team
$6,000
Rainier Vista will produce a newsletter devoted to crime prevention
and community building. The newsletter will become a permanent resource
to be shared with households and other public housing communities.
International District
$8,000
This project seeks a comprehensive, visible approach to public safety
through neighborhood activity and beautification. Funds will go
towards a spring-clean, a first-aid station for the event, lighting
and window coating rebates, and graffiti removal.
Central Neighborhood Association
$12,000
This project is part of the implementation phase of a neighborhood
design to improve the intersection of 23rd and Union Street, a hotspot
for criminal activity. Funding was provided for pedestrian lighting,
street trees and corner landscaping.
Hilltop Action Coalition
$10,000
This community will develop a community newsletter, improve a neighborhood
park, involve youth, increase home security and extend the community's
tool lending library.
