A multi-faceted grant designed to decrease crime and improve safety. Residents
will participate in several neighborhood clean-ups, install traffic barriers
to deter drug activity and involve local youth in community activities.
Yesler Terrace Community Council
$11,000
Yesler Terrace is an ethnically diverse public housing site. Residents
will install a new garden where immigrant residents can cultivate fresh
fruits and vegetables for personal and commercial use. The garden will
also build a sense of community among residents and introduce positive
activity to an area overrun by crime.
12th Avenue Meets Pike-Pine Neighborhood
$10,000
A SNAP grant was awarded for the design of a curb bulb to be installed
at a busy neighborhood intersection. This traffic calming device will
slow traffic and increase pedestrian safety.
Capitol Hill Stewardship Council
$5,000
This community will take back their neighborhood park from drug dealers
by hosting "Art in the Park" events. Funds will provide for event coordination
and advertising, surveys and performances.
