Strong Neighborhood Action Program
NW Insurance Council formed a parntership with the
local Department of Justice's Weed & Seed program in Seattle
and Tacoma in 1995 after realizing that creating safe and livable
neighborhoods was a goal the insurance industry shares with community
stakeholders. Weed and Seed is a federal program designed to weed
out criminal activity and seed in community services through a collaborative,
community-based strategy.
The result of this partnership was the development
of the Strong Neighborhood Action Program (SNAP). NW Insurance Council
provides grants to community councils in federally designated Weed
and Seed neighborhoods in Seattle and Tacoma. The program empowers
communities to create positive change by being involved in the development
and implementation of neighborhood-restoration and community-building
projects.
NW Insurance Council awards $75,000 each year to community
councils for a variety of community-initiated projects that increase
safety, reduce crime and improve the quality of life in Weed and
Seed neighborhoods.
